Our recent experiences with the coronavirus pandemic have demonstrated that new mutations in viral genetic sequences can have significant impacts on the virus’s transmissibility and the degrees of illness it causes. Recently, the same has been demonstrated with the HIV virus, which has caused 36.3 million deaths to date, per the World Health Organization. Researchers from Oxford’s Big Data Institute have found an exceptionally transmissible and damaging variant of HIV circulating in the Netherlands.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
